CO2 Laser Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing with advanced CO2 lasers is often considered the gold-standard of non-surgical skin rejuvenation, promoting a softer, smoother, and more even skin tone without the recovery time associated with facial plastic surgery. With the DEKA Tetra CO2 laser, Dr. John Luck and our Advanced Practice Estheticians at Gryskiewicz Twin Cities Cosmetic Surgery can provide both superficial resurfacing and deeper, more corrective treatment with a single device. While the system’s signature CoolPeel® treatment can reduce the appearance of mild wrinkles, sun damage, large pores, and pigmentation issues without extensive redness or downtime, the DEKA Tetra CO2 laser also stands out as one of the most powerful CO2 lasers available and can be used to more aggressively target deeper layers of the skin to achieve dramatic tightening and resurfacing results in as little as one treatment.
At our practice, Minneapolis plastic surgeon John Luck, MD performs more intensive treatment with the CO2 laser in our accredited surgical center to improve a spectrum of concerns related to the tone, texture, pigment, and health of your skin while maintaining a focus on preserving natural skin integrity.

Is CoolPeel® Right for Me?
As one of the system’s most popular and frequently utilized applications, CoolPeel® can provide meaningful yet gentle skin renewal for individuals who desire superficial resurfacing with minimal invasiveness and little to no downtime. Those who would benefit from CoolPeel® include:
- Younger patients with early textural changes or mild photodamage
- Individuals seeking maintenance-level resurfacing
- Patients with busy schedules who prefer minimal recovery
- Those who want gradual improvement through a series of lighter treatments
- Patients with skin complexions traditionally considered too dark for conventional CO2 laser resurfacing
CoolPeel® minimizes heat diffusion to the deeper tissues of the skin, so treatment is generally well-suited for individuals who want visible skin rejuvenation with a lower risk of prolonged redness or swelling. Unlike traditional CO2 laser treatments which are only safe for lighter skin complexions, CoolPeel® can be performed on patients of all skin types.
Who is a Candidate for CO2 Skin Rejuvenation (Deeper Skin Resurfacing)?
The DEKA Tetra CO2 laser can be especially helpful for individuals whose concerns go beyond what topical skincare or light-based treatments can achieve. Patients with deeper wrinkles, more significant sun damage, or longstanding acne scars often benefit from more intensive treatment to target deeper structural issues within the skin. By targeting deeper layers of the skin more aggressively, Dr. Luck can deliver noticeably tighter, smoother, more refreshed skin in just one treatment. Our team will listen to your concerns and goals to determine the right depth and treatment settings to achieve your desired results.
What Can I Expect During Treatment with CoolPeel®?
CoolPeel® is performed in our Minneapolis med spa and often takes 30 to 45 minutes to complete. A topical numbing cream is applied beforehand to help improve patient comfort. During the appointment, the DEKA Tetra laser delivers controlled bursts of energy to the superficial layers of the skin, removing damaged cells and stimulating collagen production without creating excess heat in the deeper tissues.
CoolPeel® focuses on the most superficial layers of the skin and avoids unnecessary thermal injury. Afterward, the skin may appear red, similar to a mild sunburn, but patients can typically resume normal activities immediately.
How is CO2 Laser Resurfacing Performed?
Depending on the region(s) to be treated, Dr. John Luck performs more advanced CO2 laser treatments either in our medical spa with regional numbing or at our surgical center under anesthesia. More intensive resurfacing is usually designed for patients who need deeper correction of wrinkles, scars, and significant sun damage. Unlike lighter treatments or CoolPeel®, which focus on the uppermost layers of the skin, a more comprehensive resurfacing reaches the deeper dermal structures where collagen remodeling is most impactful.
Is There Downtime After CO2 Laser Resurfacing?
Downtime varies depending on the type of treatment performed. CoolPeel® offers the shortest recovery, with redness expected for one to two days, followed by several days of dryness as the skin gently exfoliates. Makeup can usually be worn on the day after treatment.
More intensive CO2 resurfacing with the Tetra platform typically requires a longer healing period. Patients may experience several days of redness, swelling, and peeling as the skin regenerates. Although this level of treatment involves more downtime, it also produces more dramatic improvements in deep wrinkles, scars, and overall skin quality. Regardless of the treatment intensity, patients receive detailed post-procedure instructions to protect the skin and support proper healing.
Dr. John Luck personalizes treatment with the DEKA Tetra CO2 laser based on each person’s concerns and skin care goals, allowing a truly customized laser skin resurfacing experience.
